Comm352 Blog 1: Adam Swartz And JSTOR

It is a sad story that is not covering a lot of details. To my understanding and knowledge Adams was breaking the law by accessing informaton that is not meant for the public. Adam was committing felonys through internet pirating. I think that he was a very smart person who lost hisself and went off the edge. He had a good cause but that does not mean you can commit internet crimes and get away with it. Just because you are a smart person doesn't mean you have the fight to hack into government database and give private information out to the public. I feel that Adam was wrong in what he did. I know that he was fighting against the SOPA laws that would give the government the right and power to shut down any site that was breaking copyright laws. I respect his cause to fight for our freedom of speech rights to access any information, but i still respect the privacy law and the right for a business to make money. I don't know what drove him so close to the edge to jump off and take his life, but i wish the best for his family. I don't like the fact that he was a killer who took his own life. Even though it was 50% the prosecutors' fault for motivating and persuading Adam to think that his life was going to be worthless by staying alive because if his potential punishments, but Adam is still a grown adult male who needed to face life and not run away with it. What i got from this blog story is that there are many struggles that people are fighting for all over the world for and we need to be grateful for the little things like the freedom to use google.
