comm352:blog6:AFarewellToArms

The article I read was about what would happened if the American national security was being electronically breached by a computer terrorist. The article was very long and in depth but what I summaries from the reading is that we need to be prepared to handle the problem that would come with a computer terrorist. What would we do to combat with this hyper tactical issue? I feel that it is like a bigger version of the 9-11 issue which has to be solved by the same technically ingenuity used by the hackers who started this problem in the first place. If this were to happen the US government would just have to use the people tech agents who they have trained to take on such a task. This is an issue that I cannot really express a solution for because we have not witness anything so relative to an international computer terrorist breach. I feel that if such a thing was to happen our government and its allies would handle the issue in a matter of weeks.

Comm352:Blog5:Christopher Dorner LAPD Murder Story

This was a tragic story that is too deep for outside viewers like us readers of this Vice article, and the rest of the public to fully understand. Dorner was going through some tough times that only he and involved officers could analyze. From my understating there were a lot of dirty secret scandals that were going on and both Dorner and his fellow officers were in the wrong. With Dorners stress in his personal life and all the stress of his scandalous co-workers, he just blew his top. However, there is no need to go on a rampage and start shooting things up. Apparently there is this person named "Anonymous" that is siding with Dorner and feels that he is not 100% wrong and though he was pushed to the edge if he had lived to go to court...he might have told the whole story and all the truth would have came out from both sides. The death of Dorner has left the public with lost of lives, unanswered questions and less trust for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Comm352: blog 4 wifi for all

Personally i think wifi should always be free because websites get paid by advertisers and not by people who provide internet. If advertisement slots are still being bought and sold then somebody is getting paid and that is a good thing for everybody. Internet provides like Viso and cable companies like Comcast and Dish Network are going to get paid when they provide internet whether or not they charger their clients because they are still getting paid from the websites charging the advertisers. I guess this action that the Federal Communications Commission wants to implicate is not going to hurt the internet providers but just the cellphone plan providers like sprint t-mobile, at&t and etc. I think with one of type market gone there will be room for a new type of market to come in. Google and Microsoft says that it is a good idea and that it will allow people to learn more and be innovative and it will also allow the lower income homes to access the internet and apply online and learn various things that are offered on the internet. If google and microsoft are not apposing the idea than it is probably a good idea, although they are only saying that it is ok because they are not being affected. The article says that it will hurt the cellphone companies but i do not believe that and i think that is just an exaggeration. As for the implications that the RIAA wants to put into action, i think that it is a good idea but like the article says the real rich and smart people are just going to get a business class broadbrand account package.

CMM352: Blog 3: Computers..Where are They going

I think computers are going everywhere (lol.) They are basically going to be everywhere and in everything like you phone your car and your wallet. There are computers being built in your refrigerators. I think the technology for computers are growing where they are getting smaller and the processing speed is getting faster. I can see maybe in 100 to 1000 years there might even be in your shoes and clothes. More and more computers are being bought because more people feel the need or urge to always be on the Internet. Also with more and more business switch to the web or being web-based you will see a bigger demand for computers or tablets. Laptops are the mean things these days because of the speed and compatibility; and because more people are going back to school to better their education. Computers are always needed and one day they will literally be everywhere.

Comm352: Blog2: Steve Jobs Patent

Just from reading the title of the article I knew that the issue had to do with patents product software or ideas; not be permitted to be shared or accessed by other companies not authorized by Apple Inc.
Basically what i got form the reading is that Steve Job doesn't want any company or any partner company to steal or take any content or info or etc that was not given permission to in the license. Job is basically doing to other companies what Microsoft does to Apple. Job is just making sure other companies use what was given to them and nothing more. There was also a conflict about other companies trying to or recruiting employees of Apple Inc, and I understand where job is coming from on that note because that is not a fair business model. I don’t believe that if someone has the right to do business with you and then turn your back and go hire some of you employees and research groups. It is all a business issue that Jobs was trying to enforce, which states that it is against Apples' policy to hire from their groups or to steal/take info or etc that were not authorized in the agreement. One other thing that Jobs was stating is that companies that work with them need to know the difference between a license and a patient. Some of the main issues came forth because people were not operating according to their licenses and some acted like they had bought the whole patent. I feel that Jobs and the Apple team were right and totally justified. Plus I think Jobs is a good businessman all round.

Comm352 Blog 1: Adam Swartz And JSTOR

It is a sad story that is not covering a lot of details. To my understanding and knowledge Adams was breaking the law by accessing informaton that is not meant for the public. Adam was committing felonys through internet pirating. I think that he was a very smart person who lost hisself and went off the edge. He had a good cause but that does not mean you can commit internet crimes and get away with it. Just because you are a smart person doesn't mean you have the fight to hack into government database and give private information out to the public. I feel that Adam was wrong in what he did. I know that he was fighting against the SOPA laws that would give the government the right and power to shut down any site that was breaking copyright laws. I respect his cause to fight for our freedom of speech rights to access any information, but i still respect the privacy law and the right for a business to make money. I don't know what drove him so close to the edge to jump off and take his life, but i wish the best for his family. I don't like the fact that he was a killer who took his own life. Even though it was 50% the prosecutors' fault for motivating and persuading Adam to think that his life was going to be worthless by staying alive because if his potential punishments, but Adam is still a grown adult male who needed to face life and not run away with it. What i got from this blog story is that there are many struggles that people are fighting for all over the world for and we need to be grateful for the little things like the freedom to use google.

Comm461:Cultural Events Blog

For my cultural assignment I visited a lot of shows and gathering on Shepherd University campus. Four out of the 5 events were Shepherd University based. However, I left Shepherdstown for the fifth event which was a movie called
Paranormal activity 4, which was pretty sucky because the sequel was being dragged on too long and it got played out. The other four events were a pianist concert by Caroline Hong which I enjoy because I love music and also because she did a good job. I also saw an alumni exhibition in the frank center and it was a bit interest but I think the artist which was is Shepherd University grad, did not excite me too much with her comic artwork. Nevertheless it was interesting. I also saw a video about recycling in Reynolds Hall, which I enjoyed because I am totally pro-recycling. I went to a concert in the frank center consisting of the Shepherd University Men’s Choir, Women’s Camerata, Vocal Jazz Octet, and the Chamber Singer. I enjoyed that concert because it was versified and unique.
